Persist. Like a cockroach, or a stubborn case of venereal disease.
[ he does a soft huff - almost a laugh, rubbing at the side of his nose furiously for a second. ]
Hardships. A few. I didn't die in that frozen fucking hellscape where Brevyn is still a frozen corpse somewhere under that city, and I didn't die when I was hunted down and attacked by mercenaries for my rightful seat of power. I didn't stay dead when a mage decided I was inconvenient. I didn't die in the jaws of some beast I know I can easily best. I didn't die at the hands of a hag and I didn't half-drowned in the mud of Shady Creek Run. I didn't die to some thugs dulled blade pulled on me at the side of a road.
And I won't die here, either lost to rage or cut down by a screaming madman, so I suppose I'm running out of ways to die. The only alternative is to keep going. The only way to win the game is to keep playing.
To prove everyone who sought to see me dead wrong, of course.
[ a joke? ]
To enact true change. To fix the wretched rot at the core of this world and make it what it was supposed to be. One where you wouldn't have had to kill anyone.
I've done it, it's terrible. I don't recommend it. Sometimes parasitic spirits take over your body and puppet it about for two years without asking you.
I don't know that it takes a tender heart to not want you all to suffer and die. Perhaps some of you I could care less either direction, but you aren't the worst. I rather think my "deal" is simply pointing out you're all idiots and fools. There is a difference.

If you claim it to be so, who am I to argue? Perhaps you'll find clarity on the other side.
It isn't so bad. The others are there. I'm sure they'll aide you.

at that, he closes his eyes ]
Perhaps it will not be so bad to join them.

I know I'm terribly convincing, but don't just accept it so readily.

[ ... ]
You seem to have endured many hardships, Lucien. And yet you persist. It is admirable.

... A most worthy cause. I regret not having gotten to learn more of you while I still had the chance.

[ at least, the dead don't seem to be leaving anywhere quite yet. ]
Do try and live, at least a little.

I shall endeavour to try, though I do worry once I have tasted the sweetness of death... Hm, well. We shall see.

I did not expect encouragement from you to live, Lucien. You are more tender hearted than I have given you credit for. My apologies.

And you are exempt from being a fool and an idiot?
no subject
No. But less so.

I thought you found my demeanour rather grating.
